Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I purchase dance shoes?

Standing Ovation is the local dance merchandise store for ballroom shoes. Stop by and let them know we sent you. They are located at 725 West Coliseum Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46808. Or give them a call, 260-483-1633.

If you are looking for a more specific shoe type, we recommend Comfort Dance Shoes. They have shoes with extra padding, made in different materials, and sized for different foot widths to accommodate orthotics and more custom needs. Order times can be immediate, but due to the customization, it's a best practice to order shoes several months in advance.

Where can I go social dancing in the Fort Wayne area?

We encourage students to attend the Fort Wayne Dancesport chapter class and dance held on the second Saturday each month from 7:15pm-11:00pm at IPFW's Walb Student Union. The calendar page on their website also lists many social dances in the area.

Do you have any music recommendations? Are there any resources to listen to dance music?

Outside of searching a personal music collecton, there are several online resources available to help you discover and practice with dance music. Ballroom Beats has a nice variety of ballroom songs. To listen to and practice West Coast Swing, check out Radio WCS. 8Tracks is a nice online resource that can be searched for other popular music and club styles like Salsa.

Where and when can I practice?

The Fort Wayne Ballroom Company students are welcome to practice in the studio Monday-Friday anytime between 12:00pm-7:00pm.

How do I find a partner?

The Fort Wayne Ballroom Company does not take an active role in forming partnerships. However, doing a showcase with someone you are interested in dancing with regularly is a great way to see how you work together.
